Daily Event for March 3, 2013

The steamer Loch Lintrathen was built by Tyne Iron Shipbuilding Company in 1899 for the Dundee Loch Line. In 1906 she was sold to Maclay & McIntyre of Glasgow and renamed Craigendoran. On March 3, 1917 during a voyage from Barry, England to Malta she was torpedoed and sunk by SMS U-37 about 7 miles east of Cape Sigli, Algeria. Three crewmen were killed and the master and chief engineer were taken prisoner.
