The cargo ship Gondola was built at Blyth Shipbuilding and launched on Aug. 10, 1892, she was christened by Miss Marian Runciman and at the time was built to the highest standards of Lloyd's. She was a steel hull single screw ship, 260' long and had triple expansion engines built by G. Clark of Sunderland. Built for the Gondola Steamship Company of London she was sold in 1894 to A. F. Klaveness of Oslo, Norway and renamed Linwood. On Jan. 22, 1917 she left Gibraltar with a crew of twenty-two, she was never spoken of again. Even today we still don't know what happened to her and the crew.
