On Oct. 23, 1911 the Royal Navy submarine D-6 was launched at Vickers in Barrow. There were seven boats in the D class of which four were lost during the war, D-6 was the last one of the class lost when she was torpedoed by UB-73 on June 24, 1918. D-2 and D-5 were both lost in Nov. 1914 and D-3 in March 1918. Three of the boats went to the bottom with their entire crews, HMS D-6 was one of them. |
