I was a PHA2 aboard the Kearsarge from Oct 1956 for two years. The ship was in dry dock in Bremerton when I came aboard and found it difficult to find the ship as it was totally covered with scaffolding and had hundreds of welders aboard who were putting on the hurricane bow and angled deck.  Sailed to San Francisco, Long Beach, San Diego, Hawaii for a shake down cruise and then on to Japan, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Iwo Jima, Guam and back to the states.

The below image shows me following Admiral Arleigh Burke via high line transfer from Kearsarge to a destroyer. I attended the Navy Photo School at Oakland California and then Miramar and Pensacola, Fl. I have been a photographer for 57 years. Had the largest studio in Kansas City with 15,000 square feet.
