Dec. 13, 1939:
Engaged the German cruiser Admiral Graf Spee in the Battle of the River Plate.
Hits from Admiral Graf Spee killed 58 crewmen, 8 others died of wounds later.

Feb. 27, 1942:

Damaged in action with Japanese warships in the Battle of the Java Sea, en route
for repairs when sunk Mar. 1, 1942
