Captured and sunk Jan. 4, 1916 by SMS U-34. Shelled and forced to stop, sunk with two
charges.

Location: Mediterranean Sea, 213 miles east of Malta.

31 crewmen on board escaped in 2 lifeboats. One boat with 14 men was last seen Jan. 6 and
never found. The other boat with 17 made land in Libya on Jan. 10. Two Greek fireman were
sent with a local to find help, their fate is unknown.

The remaining 15 survivors were attacked by Bedouins on Jan. 12, three were murdered and
captain, Arnold C. B. Groom and Carpenter Alexander Wiklund were wounded. Wiklund died of his wounds aboard a rescue ship later in the day. Groom, Wiklund and the bodies of the three
men who were killed were picked up by an Italian steamer and landed at Marsa Susu, Libya.

The ten remaining survivors were taken prisoner by the Bedouins. At least nine were later
released and landed at Malta in Aug. 1916. The fate of the last man is unknown.
