Note the report in column 2: "Germans Torpedo Three Freighters Off Coast of Ireland" |
(Anten and Tymeric were in the 43-ship convoy OB-244, both were sunk by U-123. The convoy lost six ships to U-boats. 72 men on Tymeric and 1 from Anten were lost. The third ship mentioned, Blairesk, was in OB-244, but I have no record of it being hit by a torpedo. It was scrapped in 1970. This was the "happy time" for U-boats, while U-123 and U-103 were attacking OB-244 on Nov. 21st on this day, Nov. 23, SC-11 was being attacked by U-100, which would sink 7 of the 38 merchant ships in the convoy.) |
