Daily Event for May 18

On May 18, 1912 on one side of the ocean the battleship Texas was launched. On the other side at Vickers in Barrow a battlecruiser was launched, not for the Royal Navy, but for the Imperial Japanese Navy. This was the battlecruiser Kongo. Both ships survived until the Second World War, but only one still survives today. Kongo was sunk Nov. 21, 1944 by USS Sealion SS-315, and Texas BB-35 is now a museum.
