Daily Event for December 5, 2010

The Silverpine, a 5,066 ton freighter owned by the Silver Line (S & J Thompson) of London was torpedoed and sunk by the Italian submarine Argo on December 5, 1940 over 300 miles west of Ireland. I have few details about the sinking other than thirty-five men lost their lives and the nineteen survivors were picked up and landed at Londonderry.
