November 30, 1943 the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard at Kittery, Maine launched the submarine Queenfish SS-393. By the end of the war she had sunk at least 8 ships for over 40,000 tons. Queenfish and her crewmen earned six battle stars and a Presidential Unit Citation, but this did not save her in the end, she was sunk as a target in 1963.
