November 2, 1941 the Greek submarine Pipinos P-71 was launched at Vickers in Barrow. The boat was laid down as HMS Veldt, but was transferred to the Royal Hellenic Navy when complete. The submarine scored several victories during the war and was scrapped in 1958.
