She was built too late for the Great War, but she served in the Second World War even though she was fairly obsolete. On September 19, 1918 the destroyer Blakely DD-150 was sent down the ways at William Cramp in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The old four stacker served in the the Caribbean as an escort and patrol vessel until she was torpedoed on May 25, 1942 by U-156, the torpedo carried away 60' of the bow, but the crew saved the ship and she was repaired. She returned to escort duty not only in the Caribbean, but also in the north Atlantic. The old Blakely, tired and worn out, was discarded soon after the war was over and scrapped in late 1945.
