Built at Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson in Wallsend and launched on St. Patrick's Day in 1904, the Dotterel was a cargo ship about 85' long registered at 1,596 tons and owned by the Cork Steamship Company. On Nov. 29, 1915 while
heading from Manchester to a port in France she and her crew came to grief on a mine laid by SMS UC-5 only 5 miles from Boulogne-sur-Mer, France. The loss of five crewmen is the only other information I have on the event.
