Daily Event for August 6, 2008

Not an allied bomb nor a depth charge but another U-boat caused the loss of the U-612 on Aug. 6, 1942 near Gotenhafen (Gdynia), Poland. U-144 collided with the boat during a training exercise sending her to the shallow bottom, two of her crew perished. The boat was raised and repaired, but was used only for training and never made a war patrol.
