Daily Event for July 17

The Anchor Line's SS Europa, a 2,277 ton passenger ship built in 1867 came to grief off the coast of Spain on
July 17, 1878 when she collided with the Staffa of the London & Edinburgh Line. Europa was inbound from
Bombay to Liverpool when the collision occurred. Fog was the cause and it appears that all were taken aboard
the Staffa and landed at Ferrol, Spain.
