On April 27, 1945 a small Japanese motorboat slipped through the defenses and dropped a high explosive near the USS Hutchins DD-476, the resulting blast damaged the ship, but caused no casualties. This turned out to be just as good as sinking the ship to the Japanese because she was sent to Portland, Oregon for repairs and was still there when the war ended. She never returned to active service being scrapped in 1948. |
