Daily Event for October 22

While coming to the aid of the Greek destroyer Adrias L-67 on October 22, 1943, HMS Hurworth L-29 struck a mine and sank. Adrias had hit a mine earlier and was now grounded on the Turkish coast. Attempting to get to the Adrias one hundred and thirty-three Royal Navy sailors died, there were eighty-five survivors including the
commanding officer. In 1985 a new Hurworth M-39 was launched and is still in service with the Royal Navy.
