Daily Event for June 15


June 15, 1896 two steamers in Kobe, Japan were crashed together and sunk. The Kawanoura Maru and the
Hozui Maru were in the bay when they were hit by a tsunami, an estimated 178 people on board were killed.
This was a minor incident when you consider that about 27,000 people on shore were killed.
