Daily Event for October 28, 2006

At 23:30 hrs on October 28, 1941 the Italian submarine Guglielmo Marconi sent a signal giving her position as 41.55N - 21.55W, in the north Atlantic off Portugal. This was the last time anybody ever heard from the sub. The Marconi and her 58 crewmen never returned to her base and the wreck has never been found. After the war British records were looked at and no attack had been claimed that could account for her loss. Some sources indicate she was sunk in error by the U-67 however, U-67 was at Lorient, France from Oct. 19 - Nov. 26 and therefore could not have made the attack. The Marconi is another in a long line of lost boats which we may never know the fate of.
