Daily Event for October 11

The first US Navy submarine was commissioned on this day in 1900. The Holland SS-1 was John P. Holland's eighth submarine and was the first truly workable submarine. This design was produced not just for the US but by England and Russia as well. Used exclusively for training and testing the Holland SS-1 was scrapped in 1913.
