Daily Event for November 1

Taking out the enemy at any cost is sometimes expensive as the commander of the USS Borie DD-215, Lt. C. H. Hutchins found out when he rammed the U-405 north of the Azores on Nov. 1, 1943. The U-405 sank with all hands at the cost of 27 of the crewmen on the Borie and ultimately the ship itself. She was so damaged that the USS Barry DD-248 had to scuttle her the next day.
