Daily Event for June 22, 2005

On June, 1893 the British turret ship HMS Victoria collided with the HMS Camperdown off Tripoli. Under the command of Vice Admiral Sir George Tryon the ships were on maneuvers off the coast of Libya. A notice that a collision was imminent was given to the Admiral by Captain Archibald Bourke, however the Admiral did not give orders to change course until it was to late. The Camperdown rammed the Victoria and she went down in 13 minuets taking the Admiral and between 321 and 358 with him. A board of inquiry held Admiral Tryon responsible for the disaster.
