Charles A. Harris from Watertown, Massachusetts was twenty when he joined the PT-109. He was off duty sleeping on the deck near a torpedo tube at the time of the collision. When he awoke he saw the bow of the Amagiri just as it hit the PT-109 and he dove off the boat. However, some part of the boat hit him in the leg injuring him badly. He was found in the same general area as McMahon by Kennedy and guided back to the bow.
