I was on your website remembering the USS Hawes (FFG-53) As one of the original plank owners of the Hawes, there are many memories even after 30+ Years. while looking at the pictures, one stuck out to me. Page 3  January 1991 - location unknown. The locations is actually Curtis Island Light on the Kennebec River south of Bath Iron Works. Long is the tradition that the first picture of the ship underway has this location in the background. As for me, my wife and I have split our year in San Antonio, TX or just west of Portland, Me on Sebago Lake. We do make an annual trip to Bath just to remember. Thank you for the site.

Sad to see the old girl was decom'd and cannibalized. Gulf war left me with health issues but I was so proud to serve on the USS Hawes. IF anyone else has had health problems from the war please see the VA.

I have a friend who was stationed on the USS Hawes when it was put in commission.  He has heard it is going to be decommissioned but is unable to find any information on time and attendance.  Would you have any information on this?

Thanks,
Molly Piggott

USS Hawes is scheduled to be decommissioned on Dec. 10, 2010 and used for spares. I don't know where the ceremony will take place.
