Note the report in column 3: "Convoy Raider Shot Down - H.M.S. Vimiera's Third Victim"
(HMS Vimiera was lost on a mine on Jan. 9, 1942, 96 men were lost with her.)
Also note the report in column 4: "New Zealand Abolishes Death Penalty"
(The death penalty for murder was replaced with life in prison.)

Note the report in column 6: "Prepared For Gas War If Necessary"
(A U.S. General named Porter, announces that the U.S. has "rehabilitated" its poison gas factories from the last war and was building new facilities in order to "use this weapon on a large scale when necessary in defensive warfare." He may not have been aware that the use of poison gas had been outlawed by international treaty. To the best of my knowledge only Japan used poison gas in combat in World War II.)

Note the headline report: "German Submarines Sink 22 British Convoy Ships"
(The attack, which lasted from Sept. 9th to Sept. 19th, was against convoy SC-42, a 72 ship convoy. Fourteen ships were sunk in the attacks, most on Sept. 10th and 11th. Only two were sunk later, one each on the 16th and 19th.)
Also note the report in columns 6-7: "Lindbergh Blames Jews, British, FDR - Says They Are Plotting To Get United States Into War"

(U-570, on its first war patrol, was forced to the surface and surrendered. It was towed into port and commissioned into the Royal Navy as HMS Graph. Used by the RN for testing, it was wrecked Mar. 20, 1944 and abandoned.)
