Also note the report in column 2: "New Anti-Typhus Vaccine FOund In Palestine"
(I don't know if this was successful, but as of today there is no commercially available vaccine for typhus. The disease is easily treatable with antibiotics.)
Also note the report in columns 3-4:"Lindbergh Predicts Anti-Jewish Upheavals"
(This report cites an article in Life Magazine of Aug. 11, 1941 by Roger Butterfield. The way it is presented seems to indicate that the writer, [not credited,] believes that Lindbergh is anti-Semitic. After reading the entire Butterfield article, it is hard to tell. The Butterfield article puts Lindbergh's opinion as such; "He [Lindbergh] is especially concerned with the effect such disasters would have on Jews in the U.S. He believes Jews will be blamed for American entry into the war and will suffer for it. If that happens, he has said, the anti-Jewish outbreaks that will occur here will surpass those in Nazi Germany, for Americans are more violent than Germans."

The" disasters" he is referring to are American soldiers in the "millions" dying in battle or drowning. I am not exactly sure how to interpret this statement, it says he is "concerned that this might happen" to the Jews, but he also seems to think that most Americans will, for some unknown reason, believe that the Jews got the U.S. into the war. That seems to me to be a very peculiar view. As far as his statement that Americans are more violent than Germans, you have to remember, this conversation was from 1935, even though it was published in 1941. The Germans had not created the Nürnberg anti-Jewish laws yet, Kristallnacht had not happened yet, Germany had not invaded the rest of Europe yet, the deportation of Jews had not happened yet, in fact not much had happened yet to make anyone believe that Adolf Hitler had plans to set the world on fire.

Butterfield, apparently did not interview Lindbergh for the article, and what he quotes Lindbergh as saying is actually second-hand information received from whomever Butterfield was interviewing. In the opening paragraph Butterfield writes ".in December 1935, one of the flier's oldest friends was sitting with them [Charles and Anne] in the Morrow home in Englewood, N.J."

In paragraph two Butterfield writes "We Americans are a primitive people," he [Lindbergh] said, as his listener now recalls the conversation." Therefore, Butterfield is getting the details and quotes from a conversation that someone had with Lindbergh more than six and a half years earlier. Because, as you read this it is third-hand information [Butterfield being number 3,] I thought you should have the correct prospective about what is contained in the article. The conversation from 1935 was the first part of the article, the rest of the article apparently was derived from speeches and articles that were written by Lindbergh, along with information from "friends" which are never identified. It is well worth the read.)
