(Lieutenant-General Bernard Cyril Freyberg, 1st Baron Freyberg, VC, GCMG, KCB, KBE, DSO & Three Bars reported killed in a plane crash yesterday, is alive and well.)

(Former world heavyweight boxing champion Max Schmeling, reportedly killed in Crete, is now reported to be alive. That was true, in fact, he lived until 2005, only eight months short of 100 years.

(The report is a little understated. The German Hilfskreuzer [auxiliary cruiser] Pinguin actually captured those three ships along with Pol VIII, Pol IX, Pol, X, Star XIX, Star XX, Star XXII, Star XXIII, Star XXIV and Torlyn. An entire Norwegian fishing fleet.)

Note the report in column 3: "Hess Friend Commits Suicide in Norway"
(Even though they don't have the correct name, the report refers to Generaladmiral Hermann Boehm, who was commander of German naval forces Norway from Apr. 1940 until Mar. 1943. Just like Freyberg, Schmeling and the movie stars above, he wasn't dead either. He survived the war and died in 1972.

This was the first false report of a suicide of a friend of Rudolf Hess. In July a Prof. Karl Haushofer is reported to have committed suicide in a concentration camp, this was also untrue.)
