Note the report in columns 4-6: "Gestapo is Murdering Defectives"
(William L. Shirer, recently returned from Germany, telling his readers that the Gestapo is killing mental defectives in both private and state run sanatoriums. It was not the Gestapo as such, but German doctors, and regular medical staff who were doing the killing. The Gestapo sometimes helped to round up the people and bring them in to be killed. This was known as the T-4 Program (Aktion T4) and was the first stage of the Holocaust. The program had been approved by Adolf Hitler on Sept. 1, 1939, the day that he invaded Poland and took its name from the address of the building that it was administrated from, Tiergartenstrasse 4, Berlin.)
