On Nov. 8, 1914 the Norfolk caught fire off the coast of Australia. She was owned by the Federal Steam
Navigation Company of London and measured 421' by 54' registered at 5,310 tons. She was en route from
Melbourne to Sydney when the fire broke out, soon it was uncontrollable and her captain decided to ground her
to avoid sinking and to avoid any loss of life. She came aground on Ninety Mile Beach near Victoria and stayed
there until a storm broke her in half.
