On Oct. 27, 1916 the Royal Navy destroyer Nubian was torpedoed by a German destroyer in the English Channel. The bow was severed and sank but the stern was towed to port. Twelve days later on Nov. 8, 1916 the destroyer Zulu hit a mine in the Dover Strait, the result, stern sunk bow towed to port. As ships were needed and there were two halves to work with the Chatham Dockyard merged them into one. They merged the name as well, the HMS Zubian was finished in 1917 and sold in Dec. 1919. |
