I stood by HMS ILLUSTRIOUS at Wallsend and served on her for 2 years.  I was the SO(Cash) and made sure the ship's company had plenty of foreign currency when visiting foreign ports.  I also produced 2 SODS operas (The WEMs mess appeared nude in one - Captain not amused!!!).  I would like to say hi to all the Writers on board at that time. Do you know whether a video of this commission was ever produced?

Yours Aye,
William Edwards

I am one of the original crew drafted to RO6 up in Wallsend. I have some great photographs of our crossing the line ceremony (on the way to the Falkland Island conflict) which I could post if you are interested. I'm very interested in getting in touch with my hooky -Ron Gadsby, Mat who was my fellow scribes in the Captain's Office and my mates Pete Barnard and Trevor Jackson - two killick writers from the pay office.

Cheers,
Anthony "Bungy" Edwards

Just did a google search on my name and found a message from an old pal from HMS ILLUSTRIOUS trying to get in touch with me. The message was dated 4 Nov 2010 from Anthony Edwards. If you still have his details, please let him know I'm alive and well.

Kind regards

Ron Gadsby

I am Master Chief Petty Officer (SW) Stan McKim, was a crew member of the HMS Illustrious R-06 before and during her commissioning at sea on 20 th of June 1982. Was transferred from the ship the day they sailed to the Falklands in 1982. We trained the men and commissioned the two Phalanx (CIWS) gun mounts (HMS Darlichs)(not spelled right) that had been  mounted for her protection.

What a great tour of duty, covered the summer of 1982.  Have a chance of going back to the Portsmouth area and would like to revisit the ship. There have been some major changes, but still want to tour her. Any original phalanx crew member that may find this please I would like to get in touch.

Best regards,
MCPO(SW) Stan McKim
