I am Master Chief Petty Officer (SW) Stan McKim, was a crew member of the HMS Illustrious R-06 before and during her commissioning at sea on 20 th of June 1982. Was transferred from the ship the day they sailed to the Falklands in 1982.

We trained the men and commissioned the two Phalanx (CIWS) gun mounts (HMS Darlichs)(not spelled right) that had been  mounted for her protection. What a great tour of duty, covered the summer of 1982. 

Have a chance of going back to the Portsmouth area and would like to revisit the ship. There have been some major changes, but still want to tour her. Any original phalanx crew member that may find this please I would
like to get in touch.
