February 3, 1962: Pilot Mr. A. W. "Bill" Bedford of the Hawker Aircraft Company Ltd. lands his Hawker P-1127 (XP831) on HMS Ark Royal R-09. This was the first ever vertical landing of a fixed wing aircraft on an aircraft carrier. |
