December 4, 1945: A de Havilland DH-100 Vampire (LZ551) piloted by (Ty/Act.) Lt. Commander Eric M. Brown, M.B.E., D.S.C., R.N.V.R. landing on HMS Ocean. This was the first ever jet aircraft landing on an aircraft carrier.

Note: Capt. Eric Melrose Brown, C.B.E., D.S.C., A.F.C., K.C.V.S.A., PhD Hon FRAeS, R.N. holds the world record for the most types of aircraft flown 487 and the most carrier landings 2,407. As of 2015 he was still living.
