Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway
Wheeler, Texas

A sign denoting U.S. Highway 83 in Texas as the Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway. There are a number of such signs along the long expanse of highway which runs from Perryton, Texas (near the Oklahoma State line) through Childress, Abilene, Uvalde, Laredo, McAllen finally ending in Brownsville, Texas (at the Mexican border). This sign is located on the grounds of the Wheeler County Courthouse in Wheeler, Texas and is accompanied by a 105mm Howitzer field piece as a memorial.

In 2003 Brent Jackson of Wolfforth, Texas organized the Texas Vietnam Memorial Highway Welcome Home Run, an event that takes riders from Perryton to Brownsville in four days and is made in honor of our Vietnam Veterans. (www.texaswelcomehomerun.com)
