Stringtown Shootout
Stringtown, Oklahoma

The Stringtown Shootout Memorial, located on highway 69 near Stringtown, Oklahoma commemorates the ultimate sacrifice of Atoka County Deputy Sheriff Eugene Moore, who was killed in a shootout with the notorious gangster Clyde Barrow (of Bonnie and Clyde fame) and two of his men. The gun battle also resulted in the wounding of Atoka County Sheriff C. G. Maxwell who is also commemorated at this spot.
