The Memorial was designed by Leonard Holden, Jr. with fund raising by a committee of volunteers. The former
mayor of Ash Flat, Brien Nix Hall, was Instrumental in providing a location and organizing a committee to oversee fund raising and help manage the development of the Memorial. Construction of the Memorial was done by Don Honey Masonry under the direction of Leonard Holden, Jr.

It was dedicated on November 10, 2006 and is located at the Ash Flat City Park on Nix Ridge Road. The Memorial was named American Veterans Memorial and is dedicated to all American Military Veterans from the Revolutionary War to the present, including members of the National Guard and those who served during peace time.
