(The British managed to get some information that was correct at the time. Hitler wanted to invade Turkey, however, General Staff convinced him that this would spell disaster for the German army. They respected the Turks fighting abilities and cited the humiliating defeat suffered by the British, Australians and the French in the Great War as proof.)

(The report is based on comments made by Kapitänleutnant Walter Kell, commanding officer of U-204, in the Deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung. U-204, Kell and his entire crew were lost on Oct. 19, 1941 to British warships.
