(The Statesman was sunk by a German Fw-200 Condor, but was not carrying any aircraft or aircraft parts. According to the information I have, the ship was carrying steel and general cargo from New Orleans, Louisiana to Liverpool and was owned by the Charente SS Co Ltd. of Liverpool. It had been built by Furness and previously owned by them, but had been sold in 1929.)
