Note the report in column 8: "I Do Not Want Australia"
(So says Japanese Foreign Minister Matsuoka. He also asserts that Japan has no designs on the Philippines, which was one of the first places invaded by the Japanese on Dec. 8, 1941.)
Also note the report in column 3: "One Course of Scarce Foods"
(The Minister of Food, Lord Woolton, signs an order limiting hotels and caterers to only one course of fish, meat, poultry, game, eggs and cheese.)

[*Historical note: On this day the German battleship Tirpitz was placed in commission. Tirpitz, the sister ship to the Bismarck, was relentlessly hunted by the British until it was finally sunk in Norway on Nov. 12, 1944.]

February 25, 1941: Front page of the Nottingham Evening Post, Nottingham, England.

Note the headline report: "Exposure Of Another Hitler Lie"
(That was true enough, but the rest of the report was a lie in itself. At least 18 British merchant ships had been lost between Feb. 22 and 24, which was a high number. The Germans had been unusually successful in recent days using a combination of aircraft, U-boats and surface ships. For the month of Feb.1941 the total loss of British merchant shipping was 75 ships totaling over 315,000 tons. This figure does not include other Allied or neutral ships sunk by the Germans.)

Note the report in column 2: "Might Be Hot Dog"

February 25, 1941: Front page of The Examiner, Launceston, Tasmania, Australia.

Note the report in column 6: "Hospital Ship Attacked - Nazi Frightfulness"
(The British complain when the Germans attack a British hospital ship, but themselves attack Axis hospital ships. Such is the nature of war. For the most part the goal is to kill the enemy, is it not?)

February 25, 1941: Front page of the Daily Telegraph, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Note the report in column 1: "Arrested As Spy In China"
(Mr. E. C. S. Marshall, the Foreign Editor of The Sun, was arrested at the Mekong River by the Chinese as a suspected spy for the Japanese. He was released the following day after a most cordial ordeal. From his account, he had a rather enjoyable evening and a great story to tell.)
