On Mar. 19, 1883 the 496 ton bark Lepanto left Pensacola, Florida with load of lumber bound for Cienfuegos, Cuba, the voyage would not be successful. On the 24th the ship ran into a gale which pounded the ship until she sprang a leak. Unable to stop the leak the ship would be abandoned on March 26, 1883 when the schooner Olive hove into sight. The entire crew were removed to safety, but had to face another storm in their new home before being landed at Ruatan Island off Honduras. |
