On February 18, 1982 the South African frigate SAS President Kruger F-150 was conducting exercises off southwest coast of South Africa. The operation included several ships and at least one submarine. Mock attacks were carried out by both surface craft and the submarine against each other. During the darkness the fleet executed a turn, however an error was made on the bridge of President Kruger and she was rammed by SAS Tafelberg A-243. The ship went down with between 13 and 16 crewmen, the survivors were picked out of the water by a helicopter and put aboard the other ships. |
