February 25, 1917 the cargo ship Saxon Prince was captured and sunk by the German Hilfskreuzer SMS Möwe about 650 miles west of Fastnet Rock, Ireland. All thirty-four members of the crew were taken prisoner and interned when Möwe reached Wilhelmshaven on Mar. 4. (seven were Danes and released and returned to Denmark.) Saxon Prince was the last victim of Möwe on her first war cruise. |
