A little more than a month before the Great War ended the German navy scored some successes off the United States east coast, one of the ships lost to a German mine was SS San Saba. She hit a mine laid by SMS U-117 off New Jersey on October 4, 1918 taking thirty crewmen with her, only four men survived, they were landed at Newport, Rhode Island the next day. |
