May 4, 1917 in the Ionian Sea the Italian passenger ship Perseo was torpedoed and sunk by the Austrian submarine KuK U-IV. The ship was built in Scotland in 1883 by Robert Napier & Sons and had been owned by a number of different Italian companies for her entire career. The loss of life was large, over 225 people perished. At this time I have not been able to locate any further details of the loss. |
