The loss of ships during war is a situational hazard, and for the United Kingdom the loss of ships was becoming a disaster. One more ship that was lost during the Second World War was the cargo ship Dunedin Star. She was owned by Union Cold Storage and managed by Blue Star Line. On November 29, 1942 she was en route to South Africa and on to Aden when she struck a submerged object, the hull was stove in, but she was not in immediate danger of sinking. She was run aground the next day, but was considered a total loss and abandoned. This time the loss of the ship was not accompanied by a corresponding loss of life. |
