posthumously awarded the Navy Cross. A year later the navy paid him another honor. The destroyer John D. Edwards (DD-216) was named for him and launched on October 18, 1919 at William Cramp in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The ship served throughout the Second World War in the Pacific theatre and was scrapped in 1945. |
