Daily Event for March 18


On March 18, 1794 the Apollo, a 5th rate 38 gun ship of the line, was launched at the Blackwall Shipyard in
London, England. The yard had been in operation since 1617 and was now operated by John Perry. She was
136' long with a beam of 36' and was rated by the builder at 984 tons. Her career ended on Jan. 7, 1799
when she was wrecked on the Haak Sand near Holland.
