Daily Event for March 1


The last ship built for the Allen Line of Glasgow was the Calgarian, on Mar. 1, 1918 while operating as an
Armed Merchant Cruiser the U-19 slammed several torpedoes into her and she sank taking 49 people with her, the captain Henry Kendell, survived the sinking.

Kendall had been the captain of the Empress of Ireland when she sank on May 29, 1914 and was also captain
of the Montrose and was involved in the capture of the cellar murderer Dr. Harvey Crippen.
