Daily Event for November 2

Nov. 2, 1942 was a hard day if you were on a ship with "Empire" in her name. Two of these ships had been
built during the first world war but the other three were new builds. Empire Antelope, Empire Leopard and
Empire Sunrise were all torpedoed by U-402 northwest of Newfoundland while part of convoy SC-107.

The Empire Gilbert, traveling alone northwest of Iceland, was found and sunk by U-586 while the Empire Zeal was sunk northwest of Brazil in the South Atlantic by the Italian submarine Leonardo da Vinci. At least 108 men were killed during the sinkings.
