Daily Event for October 29

October 29, 1932 the passenger liner Normandie was launched at St. Nazaire, France. At 1,029' long she was the largest moving object built by man to date. She would have a short career for in Dec. 1941 she was seized at New York by the USA for conversion to a troop transport. Sadly this beautiful ship never served the US for on Feb. 9, 1942 a fire broke out while the conversion was taking place, the tons of water used to fight the fire caused her to roll over at the dock. It was decided that repairs would take too long and would take far too much manpower so she was towed away and scrapped in 1947.
